Melanesiatimes.com – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) requested that the moment of breaking the fast together be abolished for officials to government employees during Ramadan 1444 H.

This is stated in the letter of the Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia Number 38/Seskab/DKK/03/2023 signed by Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung on Tuesday (21/3).

The reasons listed are because they are currently still in the transition of the Covid-19 pandemic to endemic.

The ban was responded to by the Chairman of the Moon Star Party (UN). Here’s the response. Yusril Ihza Mahendra advised Jokowi not to prohibit iftar activities both within government agencies and the community.

The professor of Constitutional Law is worried that it is considered an anti-Islamic movement.

“I am afraid that the letter is being used as material to corner the government and accuse the government, President Jokowi of being anti-Islam,” Yusril said
